Meet Me Downtown
After my mother passed away, while going through her archive, I bumped into one of her photographic projects, something I had never seen before.
It was 1987, before I was born, and mother decided to photograph the busy neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. The Downtown or, Centro, how we call it, is one of those places; colorful, people everywhere, loud, full of life. By coincidence, or maybe something beyond that, 26 years after she clicked those pictures I went to do the same myself.
It was 2013 and I decided to photograph the busy neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. I guess this work is about simply close the gap between us.
This is about the need to maybe locate myself in my mom and explore the possibility of keeping a connection with her.
